Philosophy of Worship...

adopted by Session December 14, 1999

The worship of God is the distinguishing mark of the redeemed community. Christian worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and power to the triune God. In worship, the people of God acknowledge God is present in the world and in their lives. As they respond to God' claim and redemptive action in Jesus Christ, believers are transformed and renewed. In worship the faithful offer themselves to God and are equipped for God's service in the world. In order to continue to bring the old story to our contemporary world, our worship shall be characterized by three marks - celebrative, dynamic, and intergenerational. In worship, the people of God gather to celebrate the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Through prayer, song and the word proclaimed people should feel a release from the burden of sin and a freedom to live for Christ. We seek to create a celebrative atmosphere in worship that encourages people to share, laugh, sing and rejoice.

Worship must be dynamic. If God cannot be reduced to one form or expression, neither should worship be bound to an unchanging pattern. Our liturgy should seek to creatively blend both the old and the new, within the Reformed tradition. Our music shall include any instrument that is used to exalt the name of Jesus Christ.

Worship must also include the whole family of God, from the youngest child to the oldest adult. The various elements of worship should be designed to engage the heart, mind and soul of both children and adults.
